Discin' with your discs.

Heavy pack, strong back.

Look, I don’t want y’all to go on yappin’ and tellin’ big pharma I told you this or else my loved ones are gonna end up talkin about how I seemed so at peace in my final days so keep this scoop on the downlow but

You can just put weights in your disc golf bag

Yeah, for real.

For real?

For real, yeah, just put ‘em in your disc golf bag. Grab some plates. I’m telling you, put a ten and a couple fives in that thing, you’ll be ruckin’ with the best of ‘em.

But why?

Alright so, those who have tasted the truth of zone 2 cardio theory know that walking is truly based, correct? But it’s still pretty limp, you’re just, like, walking. So you slap some weight on your back and now you’re cooking, baby!

Think about it — your ancestors had to run down antelopes over like sixty miles until they got tired and then beat ‘em dead with rocks, right? So then what? Then they had to carry those five hundred pounds of ‘lope sixty miles back to camp. Carrying stuff is human nature.

Woah, that makes a lot of sense

Yeah that’s what I’m saying.

So you got people rucking now, the next level of walking. Excellent. You can even mow the lawn while rucking. Okay, got it. So what’s left? Disc rucking. The final frontier!

So your average good disc golf course, let’s look at Megiddo in Morton IL - you play those 18 holes, you’ve have walked 2.1 miles total and have climbed twenty flights of stairs. That’s pretty wicked. But now you’re ruckin’ some weight too? You’re gettin’ double shredded for every triple boge, believe it.

Not only that, but when people ruck, they just have the pack on their back the whole time. Disc golf? You’re setting down and picking up that bag anywhere from zero to ten (shut up) times per round — that’s bicep curls, baby, that’s clean and presses, that’s what I’m saying.

But what if I act like a total idiot and injure myself?

Yeah talk to your doctor first, all that. Start slow.

Also, when I’m slinging my heavy golf bag on, I can feel myself using a lot of stabilizer muscles across my back that I have already strengthened via weight lifting, calisthenics, and, perhaps most importantly of all, jump roping with a heavy rope.

You need to be fully present in every footfall. You need to walk with good form and keep your core braced. I generally do this wearing barefoot sock shoes, because my feet and ankles are jacked from that jump rope game. We’ll talk about that some other minute.

But yeah, disc ruck. Get it.

Anyways, buy my books.
